I have used this filter for one year.It has been great.After one year, I vacuumed the dust off and returned it to service.I measured the resistance to flow of the filter before and after cleaning and could tell no difference.They had the same resistance as the new one I had stored away(purchased the minimum of two).To measure resistance to flow, I pull the filter away from the frame while the unit is circulating and compare the force required.This filter has so much surface area there is almost no resistance. I have a 5 ton unit.The air conditioner has a much greater flow rate with this filter than with a 1" filter.I can feel the difference in flow with my hand in front of the filter and the house humidity feels lower*. The house is very comfortable at 76 degrees. We had kept it at 73 degrees last summer.I live in Houston.
I threw away a brand new (in wrapper) and partially used 1" 3M filter because I had no use for them.
*Humidity is only removed at the evaporator coil.Too little air flow through the evaporator coil can result in a cool, humid house, but the air would be as or more comfortable if the humidity was lower and the air temperature was higher, and the operating cost would be less.That is why air conditioning systems should never be oversized.I am a chemical engineer and just had to explain this part.
