Waterwise 9000 Countertop Distiller Review

I purchased this item after going through the reviews and articles of countless other water distiller sites. I had 3 different models in mind. One was only $99 (http://www.wholesalewaterdistillers.com/), this waterwise one at $200 (available through http://www.hacres.com/home.asp ) and one for $400.

The $99 is recommended if not willing to pay a high fee. The webaddress I gave may look a little cheezy, but you can call the owner up directly and speak to him about the products. In fact, he strongly does not recommend this Waterwise Product. He says many people have trouble with the timer and something to do with the plastic. Also Waterwise has sold this modle over to Kenmore (Sears brand) and it has the same probs. (Kenmore model can be purchased anywhere from $100-200)

The $400 model my family owns. It is complete stainless steel, not plastic anywhere and it has a lifetime warrenty. Unfourtuantly, I do not have the website at this time to list it here. It's the top of the line in home distillers and has a life time warrently (compared to waterwise 1 year)

Now my nightmare with waterwise. I ordered through the hacres.com place I listed above. It only cost $200 with shipping. I had wanted a water distiller for some time. We don't drink the tap water for the contaiments in it, and I'm tired of getting Reverse Osmose water from water machines and paying all that money. Well when it arrived, it was a little bigger than I expected. Do plan on having it in an area where all the fans can freely circulate. The first batch of water needs to be dumped, just to clean the product. My 2nd and 3rd batches tasted and smelled bad....and so did all of those after it. On the 3rd morning after having the product, it wouldn't work. I thought perhaps I was doing something wrong so I called waterwise and told them my problem (the carafat light was coming on, thereby not allowing me to start the distilling process). They looked up in the computer the message, put me on hold and said that they were shipping out a whole new machine to me.

Okay, that was bad news...I asked what was the matter. Wouldn't you know it, it was the same thing the gentleman on the phone told me about from the $99 water distiller place. The timer broke and it was irreplaceable. Being that my machine was under warrently, they were shipping out a whole new one to me and wanted me to send my broken one back to them.

Well when everything hit me sometime later, I relized that I didn't want a machine like that. I wanted to have my water distiller around for more than a year (esp at that price). So I decided to send everything back...which resulted in a big headache from both waterwise and hacers.com. Each company wanted back the broken distiller. After many phone calls, the situation was finally solved. I never want to go through such an experience again.

To sum things up, do not purchase this model.

this kit comes with instructions that are not clear and therefore difficult to follow which makes the results unreliable.I did not notice changes in the color of the strips that are clear.I know the water in our house ,which comes from a well, is harsh and smelly at times even after passing through different tanks:water softener,filter,chlorinator,resine,salt and god knows what else,yet the strips hardly changed in color in spite of the smell and the metallic taste. 6000 Half Facepiece Respirator – M Review

The filter works well. It is used in a home wood shop. I was a little uncertain about the correct filters to use with the mask but a call to 3M solved that.Good air flow and comfortable enough to wear for longer periods.I don't have the coughing spells any longer but wearing this, hearing protection, and often a face shield, I feel like something out of Star Wars.

Eva-dry Electric Petite Dehumidifier Review

I live in a coastal region that receives high levels of moisture and humidity on a daily basis.To top it off, my house has bathrooms which have no ventilation, so we've often had to deal with mold problems.The answer to my problems arrived in the form of a small box-shaped dehumidifier called "Eva Dry".

This device works tremendously well, pulling moisture out of the air at a reasonable rate.The 16oz reservoir takes about one week to fill up, when I leave it running constantly.I use it in my bathroom mainly, but once in a while my bedroom will feel damp, and it handles the 12'x14' space just as effectively as it does the bathroom.My only complaint is that it's not nearly as quiet as I thought it would be, and the power cord is kind of bulky for bathroom use; I have to tuck it all away someplace, and my only outlets are on the counter, so that's a bit aggravating.The product loses one star for that.

I recommend this to anyone who has ventilation problems and needs to be rid of excess moisture in small to medium sized spaces.

PMAC12-C MERV 11 Lennox Replacement Filter (2 Pack) Review

I though I was ordering original equipment replacement filters. Not the case. And while the filters are a quality finish, the filters do not fit snug into original filter housing. Further, the original filter comb separators are completely incompatible with the replacement filters pruchased here. I had no problem returning the unopened boxes but lost out on the open box ($55.00) and shipping charges ($17.00) There is no easily discernable mention that the filters are NOT original equipment replacements.

Bottom line:it was fun to play with for a couple weeks but ultimately I sent it back.

20x25x5 MERV 13 Lennox High Efficiency Replacement Filter (2 Pack) Review

The size of the filter on the site seemed to match the size of the filter that was on my filter. I found out later that there were many filters with this same 'size' stamped on them but that doesn't mean they fit my furnace. It would have been helpful if the site listed the specific furnace model. I call 3rd party vendor's customer service via email and Jennifer Jones responded. She said I could return it but I had sort of damaged one of the 2 filters while trying to install it so I could only return 1 of the 2 filters and the cost of the return doesn't make sense to spend the money so I kept the filter. Jennifer was able find the proper filter for my furnace and waived the shipping cost. I now have 3 filters and don't have to worry about having to buy a new one for quite some time. Jennifer did agree that more info is needed on the Amazon web site and that they'll probably post more filters to help customers pick the proper filter. Live and learn.....

What is there to say other than it fits perfectly.
One thing was missing when we moved in to our new house some 12 years ago, the type and actual size of the air filter. Builders often use prefabricated intakes and, just as often, fail to give the customer/buyer the source and part number for the correct filters. As usual, Filters-NOW is is the only place to order my filters. Filters-NOW actually builds/assembles filters.Their selection through Amazon is actually better than what they offer on their own website.

The filter material is excellent and filters out everything from hair to drywall dust.These are good for about 350 hours of operation in a normal household.If you have a dusty house, or are doing remodeling, then your duration is much shorter.If you exceed the useful life of a filter, it will greatly decrease the efficiency (ie, increase your cost).

The best way to do this is to check your filter every month.If you see grey discoloration larger than a few inches in the center, then it's time to replace the filter.

Filters-Now replacement filters are delivered promptly, and are packed individually in sealable plastic bags.The bags are left unsealed so you can put your old filter in it and not track dust through the house.

We've used these filters for 2 years and have been very pleased.The cost of the MERV13 filters are less than the cost of locally obtainable MERV11 filters, so I highly recommend this manufacturer's products, no matter which filtration level you need (MERV8, 11 or 13).

I've used this pinner on a few projects and overall I'm pleased with it.So far it's not jammed or malfunctioned and seems to set the pins to a uniform depth.

I have noted one thing I dislike.If you look closely at the picture of the tool, you'll see a small triangular piece of metal above the trigger.This is the safety.To operate it, you must poke your finger into the little space above the trigger and pivot the safety out of the way, allowing the trigger to move.Be aware that this is the only safety.Unlike most air nailers, there is no device the prevents the tool from firing until it's depressed against the workpiece.Once the safety is moved aside, the tool's hot and will shoot pins whenever the trigger's depressed.

Aside from the safety system, I've been pleasantly surprised with the performance of this inexpensive little tool.If you're like me and have need for a pinner for occasional projects, I think you too will like this one.Just use it with caution!

Window Guard (small) Review

I bought 2 of these for my home in the Atlanta area. I have a whole house fan, but the pollen is so heavy in the spring and fall that we almost never use it.

Prior to purchasing these, I was using a combination of furnace filters and cardboard in 2 unobtrusive windows. Itworked as a temporary solution, but I had to be very careful about the weather.

These new filters adjusted and installed easily and they definitely keep the pollen out. Unfortunately, they don't allow much air to pass through either.

I think that to be successful when using them with an attic fan, you need more than 2. I think it would take 6 to be effective for me and I don't want to spend that much money on them.

Older 2200s with fiberglass mat on door back do not use include styrofoam spacer.
Metal frame assembly and installation is nearly idiot-proof,
media installation is far less tedious than before,
but aligning plastic grooves on bottom of media with frame metal must be done blind,
needs feeling about with fingers.
New media is thicker, with fewer and shallower pleats,
so must have considerably less surface area and higher resistance;
HVAC systems which were marginal with a single 2200 may be problematic for this upgrade

And we liked this machine enough that we have purchased another Waterwise unit.This second unit is more attractive, but to tell you the truth, I like this older version better.For one thing, it doesn't have any plastic tubing which can crack and/or leave plastic particles in the water.

If appearance isn't a problem, I'd definitely buy this distiller. This system is just simple and best.Ours has run for years and the only thing I would do differently is that I would clean it with vinegar more often so the mineral deposits wouldn't build up and make the interior so unaesthetic.

Notes: Like our other Waterwise, this distiller is fairly noisy.

After it arrived, I got the same exact filter product number at Walmart for $2.50 less and bought several of them.

Compact III 5 Stage Review

I got this for the office to use instead of bottled water.I have one at home (different manuf. but almost same setup) so I know I like the water much better than the tap, or even most bottled water.The installation instructions were a bit skimpy, but if you've done pumbing before and understand the idea of how the 6 filters of this RO systen works, it will not be a problem for you.I actually have an additional whole house filter and water softener, at the water main, before the water gets to my RO system.

In case you don't know the sequence of filtration, here it is: First, the water goes through 3 pre-filters (the clear tubes you see in the picture), then through the Reverse Osmosis filter membrane (above the pre-filters), then through an optional post-filter (to remove any remaining desolved solids), then finally through an activated Charcol filter (to remove any remaining taste/odors in the water), before it is stored in the tank.The tank pressure is very good.It will fill your glass of water in 5-10 sec. (about 2-3 times longer than tap water at full).

I was very surprised how fast this one makes water (a full tank in about 2 hours).Mine at home takes at least 4 times as long.Beware that this system does not include a dispensing faucet, but I got one from the same company with a phone call.I was surprised that the faucet was not included, but they explained that many of their customers use this system to filter water for their fish tank.Ah Hah!

One last thing, almost all RO systems waste a lot of water.Like around 7 gallon for each gallon you actually filter and store.Now that sounds like a lot, but think about how many gallons you actually will use daily, and then you will realize you waste more just flushing the toilet every day!Maybe you will be clever enough to store the post-filter water in a holding tank and use it for watering, washing, cleaning, etc.This water is not dirty water, it just has a higher concentration of desolved solids.

Tomli Designer Air Gap RO Faucet - Antique Bronze Review

Fairly easy to install.Good solid metal construction.I like the fact that a 2" spacer comes with the faucet.The spacer is used between the bottom of the sink and the nut that attaches the faucet to the sink.The spacer gives you just that little extra room needed to maneuver -- especially when there isn't a whole lot of space.The connections on the air gap are plastic and pretty easy to break.I know. I did it.But with some silicone and some ingenuity, I managed to recover!I wanted oil rubbed bronze (ORB) to match my faucet, but antique bronze is the only color I could get (without having to drill another hole in the basin).This RO faucet is the most elegant I could find (that had an air gap) and it somewhat accents the kitchen faucet.It would have been better were it oil rubbed bronze in color.
